Craftsmanship, colour, tone and texture, all these elements are in wonderful abundance when inspecting and handling this pipe, hand made in Rome, Italy by Mario Grandi.

The sandblasting in a series of very uniform waves offers an extra terrestrial quality, combined with the near black stain it appears to be carved from an asteroid or meteorite. The emerald and mint green stem offers a perfect compliment to such rugged shank and bowl.

Perhaps 'Reverse Volcano' would be more appropriate for the shape description? I'm totally open to suggestions if you have any, feel free to add them in the comments.

The First Smoke

Before packing any tobacco into this pipe, a cold draw revealed a very pleasant note of amaretto, I haven't a clue if this derives from the acrylic or the wood.

To eagerly begin the break in, a swift half bowl of Vanha Havanna, a Nordic blend of Virginia, Latakia and Cigar Leaf available from my friendly local supplier - Töölö Sikarikauppa.

Initial performance was superb, perfect draw with cool smoke and very comfortable on the jaw.

Big thanks to Mario Grandi and Future Pipes of Rome, Italy.
